Privacy Awareness Week
2 - 8 May 2010
Privacy Awareness Week is run in partnership with the Asia and Pacific Privacy Authorities (APPA), which includes Australia (federal), New South Wales, Victoria, Northern Territory, Hong Kong, Korea, New Zealand, Canada (federal) and British Columbia.

Events planned for the week included:
- A one-day privacy forum in Wellington, called "The future of privacy" and held on 5 May 2010.

- Release of results from a UMR public opinion survey on privacy in New Zealand. The survey included questions on social networking; where people go to find information about privacy; and attitudes to government and business use of personal information. - Release of results from our survey of government departments on their use and handling of portable storage devices (such as USBs and laptops). This survey updated last year's survey results from the same departments.

- Launch of the poster and information material for young people, developed by our own youth advisory group.
- Launch of the APPA online test on ID-theft, with support from partners in government and business.
- Case notes relating to complaints handled by the Privacy Commissioner.
