If I'm selling my business, can I share the clients' personal information?

Yes, in some circumstances it may be appropriate to disclose personal information when selling client lists or employee information.

Principle 11 of the Privacy Act says an agency should not disclose personal information unless one of the exceptions applies. One of these exceptions, 11(i), allows personal information to be disclosed when the agency believes the disclosure is necessary to facilitate the sale or disposition of a business as a going concern.
