What are "wearables" and does their use raise privacy issues?
“Wearables” is short for wearable devices.
Wearables include devices like smart watches, fitness trackers, VR headsets and augmented reality glasses.
Depending on the type of wearable and what it’s used for, these devices can track your health data, location data and other personal information.
Before you start using one, it’s important that you read up on and are comfortable with what is collected and who else might see it.
The Biometrics Processing Privacy Code 2025 will not generally apply to wearables for consumer use. See our guidance on what the Biometrics Code does not apply to for more information.
